JAMES PARKINSON: From the arcade to the home console, video games are a pastime spanning generations.
JAMES PARKINSON: Games have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Decades are defined by consoles, and times spent playing with friends and family are cherished memories. And video games are now more accessible than ever. They offer us social connection, foster creativity, and enable self expression.
VOICE 1: I’m not a gamer and this is, like, life-changing for me.
VOICE 2: I remember when I played, probably the first Metroid, and learned that Samus was female at the end. And I was just like, “Oh, I don't know what I'm feeling right now, but that's really cool.”
JAMES PARKINSON: Hey, I’m James Parkinson. From Lawson Media, this is Gameplay. A show about video games, and the virtual worlds that power culture and community.
VOICE 3: It had the ability to take games to an audience that doesn’t actually think or believe that they are playing games.
VOICE 1: This is different for me, and it’s different because I’m not only moving my body, but I always want to find out what’s next in the storyline.
VOICE 4: Your first thought isn’t, “oh gosh, this could mean a billion dollar write-off”. That wasn’t your first thought.
JAMES PARKINSON: Gameplay brings you real stories from the world of games. Some of them you know, and some you don’t.
VOICE 5: A lot of his creations, he didn’t think too much of. He thought, “I’ve solved a problem and that’s that”.
VOICE 6: So that opened up a whole world to me that I knew absolutely nothing about. I didn’t even own my own computer at the time.
VOICE 4: You know, while I’d like to say we were smart to do what we did, I think it was easier than that. We did what we had to.
JAMES PARKINSON: Gameplay launches on October 1st, with episodes dropping every two weeks. Listen, wherever you get podcasts, and learn more at gameplay.co
VOICE 3: This is all just the way the industry works, and it started with the App Store.
